The Laid Back Beachy Town of Narragansett, RI
Fisherman’s Memorial State Park
This may have been one of my favorite campgrounds. Amazing location, close to all the restaurants and beaches, nice facilities (nothing amazing, but they’ll do) and extremely helpful staff! Because we were hitting up this beach town after the typical touristy season, the campground was not super packed and we were able to tuck ourselves into a fairly private corner. The lots themselves were pretty average on size, but definitely had a nice woodsy feel to them with plenty of grass and trees. Seriously, some campgrounds feel like a Walmart parking lot (no disrespect to Walmart).
The staff was delightful and full of suggestions and recommendations on where to eat and sightsee.
Two Ten Oyster Bar & Grill
Happy Hour. Possibly my favorite combination of words. When looking for a happy hour while in Narragansett, RI, obviously one focused on fresh seafood, we may have found the most adorable and delicious little joint: Two Ten Oyster Bar & Grill, located just 10 minutes from the Fisherman’s Memorial State Park we had set up shop in.
First, look at it. It’s adorable and exactly what you would want in a little spot directly on the water with a nice marina behind it.
Second, let’s talk about their happy hour specials. Every Monday – Friday from 4-6pm you can get in on some DELICIOUS $1 oysters, deals on raw clams (first for me), oysters rockefeller and clams casino, along with great deals on beers, wine and martinis.
The oysters here were so delicate, light and fresh we could have eaten 50 of them…each. We’ve done it before, we’ll do it again, don’t tempt us. We also tried some raw clams, which we had never had before. They were also delicious and much sweeter than the oysters, but were not my absolute favorite. They had more of a chew, which threw me off a bit, but it is probably something I would just need to try again.
We also dove into some amazing Oyster Rockefeller- I don’t know how you can go wrong with that- and some Clams Casino- those were just alright, I’d probably pass on those and go of more Rockefeller or raw oysters, just a bit too much breading for me.
Whalers Brewing Company
Of course we had to check out a small local brewery while in town and found ourselves at Whalers Brewing Company. Not an easy place to find, and we were pretty sure the Uber driver was taking us behind abandoned industrial buildings to kill us, but nope, just to a hidden gem of a brewery.
The brewery itself was very large and had a homemade vibe to it, nothing fancy at all, but tons of games and hand painted/graffitied tables. We had a great time here, everyone was so nice and the beer was great. Nothing insanely weird or out of this world, but just good easy to drink beer.
