Rehoboth Beach

Rehoboth Beach

Rehoboth Beach, Delaware really had a special warmth and charm to the town.

While the main street did give off a tourist beach vibe- it wasn’t as overpowering as many other beach destinations.

The perfect little downtown is complete with an iconic old-school salt water taffy store,  a couple of ice cream shops, and plenty of seafood.  One question Richard kept asking me when in the northeast- what’s the deal with the salt water taffy? Why is that a thing?… Other than the fact I used to eat pounds of it living up north, I have no clue. Nada. So please feel free to explain this.

As with most places we were visiting, it was the off-season…thank god.   I could easily see this little area getting slammed with tourists in mid-July.  But when we were there in October, it was the perfect temperature with the perfect amount of people wandering the sidewalks.  Also- plenty of great seafood to choose from.  We chose to have a little oyster sampler at the Dogfish Head Restaurant on the main street.  Trendy little place with tasty oysters.  Definitely wasn’t the cheapest option, but it did have a great atmosphere.

While there wasn’t a convenient campground for us to set up shop in, we were able to spend the night in the parking lot of a cute little brewery about 10 minutes from the beach, the Crooked Hammock Brewery.  It was a fun joint that was super family friendly, with a great patio area that included backyard games and fire pits.  While it did give off a chain-restaurant vibe at first, after browsing the beer list during dinner and having some samples, I was impressed.  They had a super delicious fall beer selection (my favorite) that had the perfect blends of spices and warmth.  But once the music started…that’s what really changed our minds.  They had a great band that started playing later in the night that played all the best 80’s and 90’s alternative/rock/good stuff.  And since it’s a family friendly place, there were plenty of kids and awkward dads dancing for everyone’s entertainment.

In the morning we made the decision to get our booties up super early to catch the sunset on the beach.  Not disappointed.  The beach itself was so serene and peaceful.  There was a surprising amount of people that had the same idea as us and were wandering around waiting for the sun to poke up.

Also, we found some super cool treasures on the beach.
